So lately I've been working on a script that I hope to send out in the next year. I know that my script has a 1 in a Million chance of landing on the desk of Steven Speilberg, but hey, that's a chance. I want to make it in "The Biz". I know I have what it takes. Do you? Mind if I give out a little advice? K, good. Here it is: From my experience, if you wanna make it in show business--and, let's face it, it is a business--you have to have a product to sell. This sounds weird but it's true. If you're an actor/actress going in for an audition, you should walk in and be saying in your head, "They want me for this role. They just don't know it yet. And I'm about to prove it to them." Yes, it's true. If you're good looking and know a few people you're better off than someone who is a bit sore on the eyes and knows no one but their cat. I know a few people in the industry--I can count the number on 1 1/2 hands--but it's a start. If you want to be a Cinematographer (the guy who helps light and set the tone of a shot), the best way to become the best at the job is to start as a Production Assistant. See what it's like on a set before you try to light for one. Then meet some people and work on another project with them as a Film Loader, etc. Eventually, your visions will manifest and you'll know the right ways of making them appear in real life. Same goes for any job in the biz. Start small but think big!
